Cookies FAQ
Can I get a virus from a cookie?
Currently no. Netscape and Microsoft say that it is impossible to a virus
from a cookie. Years ago in DOS, ansi bombs were transfered through text
files. They were usually larger in size than a cookie, but not by much. If
you told me a year ago that you could get virus though email or Word doc files
I would not have believed you. That fact is there are many people that spend
hours to destroy your computer.
Why do servers give cookies
Servers give cookies to track users. Without cookies you would need to type
in an ID number on every single page and everytime you access it. For more
information on why servers give cookies, click on Cookies FAQ.
How do I stop all cookies from being on my computer?
If you are using Explorer 4.0+: Go to view, Internal Optionsm then select
the Advanced tab. In that tab go down to security. Click on Disable all
cookies. Netscape 4.0 also has the same feature.
If you are using an older version of Netscape, just write-protect the
cookies.TXT file. This will prevent any cookies from being saved.
How can I view the cookies on my hard drive?
Download Cookie Cruncher. It works with AOL, Explorer, and Netscape.
