Double Hinge Windows
These are windows that slide up and down.
This is the most common type of window in America. The
majority of these windows come with a built on Thumb lock.
These can eaisly be bypassed by inserting a knife or screw
driver in between the two windows.
or drill a quater-inch hole through the inside window frame and into the outside frame on each side of the window. Insert a nail or metal pin into the hole, leaving a quarter inch out so that it can be removed easily from the inside. This prevents someone from removing one frame and entering your home.
Attach window air-conditioning units with long screws or bolts fitted into the window and structure. If a burglar takes out the window unit, it gives him a big opening into your home.
Considering using security bars.
Add shutters on the outside or inside of yor windows. Hang them on pivot hinges attached to the house wall or window frame. Shut them with a sturdy inside latch; a flat steel bar across the inside on retainer brackets adds even more security.
Sliding glass doors and windows

the windows track and prevent the window from being opened
or can be placed to allow the window to be partially open.
This locks come in two varieties, one that can be unlocked
by unscrewing the lock or be opened only with a key.
Another method that has the same effect is to drill a hole
or holes in the track and put screws in them.
